It went a bit wrong so I tried to make the best out of a worse situation.

Embarassed Embarassed

I can't believe how long it took me. About 8 hours. Not all in one day. It looked good, but then I just messed it up and it got worse and worse.

Don't do yourself down Thomas. (there'll always be plenty of other people to do that in life)

I'm guessing this was your first attempt? or at least one of your first?
You can't expect to become a 'Picasso', 'Monet, or 'Turner' overnight - what it takes is practice, practice, practice....
The main thing is that you rmjoy it, while you get that practice, anfd hone your skills.
And it's as much about looking at your subject, as it is about painting.

What kind of paints did you use? (looks like maybe acrylics?)
Personally I can't advise on colour painting - I 'draw' myself, used to exclusively pencil-sketch, but have been getting into high-contrast black-ink drawing lately.....
One thing I'd advise is to look at the composition of other paintings - a simple way to give your picture more 'depth' would have been to angle that fence at the top - maybe come from centre-left, and angle upwards as it stretched across the picture - make it bigger at the left, and gradually narrowing as it disappears into the distance.

When I first started drawing, I used to try to copy pictures I liked - it's surprising what you can pick up simply from doing that - it makes you LOOK closer at the subject, which is always a good habit to get into.

Good luck with your future pics - and please do post them up....

A-ha - you've been getting some more practice - keep at it mate - and don't rush it.

In that last pic you can see the grain of the canvas - are you using canvas all the time? because that seems a very expensive way to get practice - how about some decent-grade A4 paper?, or even white card?, would be much cheaper than buying canvasses

I used to sketch a LOT when I was younger - but then in late teens I discovered beer, cars and women (as you do Very Happy ) and it all went by the wayside....
After a Lo-o-o-o-o-ong gap, I got back into it a few years ago - funnily enough through another hobby that I also got back into after a long lay-off.
I started getting back into astronomy - and began to sketch what I was seeing through the telescope.
The sketching made me study far more carefully what I was seeing - and so I began to actually SEE more through the telescope.
And it also works the other way too - by more carefully studying what you are seeing - will bring out the best from your drawing/painting.

Striking work there - particularly like his guitarist.

And thanks for that link - I've been intending to look for a site like that to upload some of my pics.
I think I might just spend the night scanning my own stuff Very Happy

Well - I just spent a couple of hrs scanning, re-sizing, and uploading to 'artbreak'
Rather than hi-jack Thomas' thread though, I'll go post a link in a new thread....
