Just after booking an open ended ticket to Italy, with a view on staying in Rome for a couple of days before heading down to Calabria. Can't wait cuz I really need a break from Ireland for awhile just to de-stress me and there's nothing like the south of Italy to disconnect you from all the mayhem. They live a different way down there and it's so relaxing. Still don't speak Italian though!!

Actually starting to get excited about the food now! Some gorgeous restaurants down there that I haven't sampled in ages.

Pasta, pizza, beautiful fresh salads, fish, pork. Just a great range of food, all produced locally.

I'm usually not into that kinda thing but since I unearthed the families digital recording yoke I might actually film a bit of Rome and Calabria for you to have a look at. It it easy to transfer them onto youtube?

I can't watch YouTube but, yes, you can.

Very easy as long as you can firstly put the video onto your computer, but as long as you've got the lead then there won't be a problem. http://images.digita

Yeah, I have one of those digital ones that you just have to hook up to your computer. Easy. Plus it takes pics so happy days.

After studying Rome abit, it seems like most things are within walking distance from the hotel and sure the Metro is apparently great too. Other thing is the hotel was recommended to me by my mother and she knows the owner, who's very helpful with directions and stuff. Should be a great little trip and then down to Calabria.

Greetings from the most beautiful city in the world everyone. All I can say about Rome is wow, just wow. You read about the history, architecture and art, but nothing compares to gazing at it all in awe at what they accomplished here. The people are really friendly too, which is actually a big change for me seeing as I'm usually in the south of Italy, where they're a bit more insular and tribal. They've been so nice up here and it's just a joy to walk around the streets and take it all in, with something new to behold at almost every turn. Magic.

No, no. Hotel has wireless and have a laptop with me. Just back in now. Knackered but elated at what I've seen. What a place.

I just arrived in Calabria last night. Loved every minute in Rome though and will defo travel up again for a few more days to absorb and appreciate more of the beautiful churches and artwork that's found on basically every street in the city.

God, got a bad old dose of the chills and flu on the second day down here. Had me in bits for a day or two but over it now and enjoying the area again. I'm right next to the Tyrrhenian Sea here so will be going for walks and swims early morning as often as I can. I'll paint it too. Gorgeous colour to it.

Oh, and I'm addicted to artichokes, black olives, parma ham and peach flavoured iced tea again. And of course the seafood and mozzerrella goes without saying really.
