Very quiet in here these days so I thought I'd ask people what films they hold dear to their hearts even though they're ultimately flawed. I mean, which films are heroic failures in that they strive so hard to be something special but ultimately fail, for one reason or another: films that are your secret favs because of the fact they were so close to being perfect or that their ambition extended far beyond their capacity for greatness.
My first one is Coppola's version of Dracula. It's so bloody flawed but there's moments of such hypnotic sensuality that combine image, score and dialogue so perfectly that you're swept away along for the ride. The opening scene perfectly illustrates this, and even though it strays so far from the source material, I still love to watch certain moments from it when I have the chance.
Oh, and Oldman is the greatest Dracula ever......
